There’s a “Loneliness Epidemic” out there!

Being lonely is bad for your mental health. Loneliness has been linked to depression, anxiety, irritability, and even suicide. Recent studies show that loneliness can also be harmful for your physical health. A study from the United Kingdom found that social isolation and loneliness can increase your risk of having a heart attack or stroke. Other recent research shows that loneliness is just as much of a health risk as obesity or smoking.

There are many little ways we can all combat this - pick up the phone and call friends and family instead of texting, say hello to your neighbour, smile at people you meet.

If you know someone who would benefit from walking and talking, call Walking Company! When people get outside their homes, walking with conversation & companionship, they find many people to interact with along the trails and sometimes reconnect with old friends.
